With the drivers now installed I installed Reaper to check ASIO and sure enough Creative ASIO is available and running Bradsucks.at 2ms no problems at all. Having done this I went straight to windows update and downloaded 3 available updates windows defender, audigy wdm and 8800gtx wddm 1.1. Finally select the operating system (original program's os). To do this simply mouse2 over the program, click properties, compatibility and tick "run this program in compatibility mode for" box. (so it seems this particular xp driver works in w7).

The install procedure for the driver would not complete under W7, therefore, I had to set compatibility mode to winxp sp2 and this allowed the driver to install completely. I downloaded it under the xp partition, then, booted back into w7.
This is 1 driver I've never had to reinstall under winxp so I never kept a back-up.
